Gerhard Deim Zweigelt

Niederösterreich, Austria
Zweigelt
The cool microclimate of Schönberg am Kamp makes for a unique zweigelt. Gerhard even mentions this on his bottle (KK stands for Kühles Klima). These low temperatures create a light, frivolous style.

About the winemaker

“In the middle of Kamptal, in the village of Schönberg am Kamp, you will find our Weingut Gerhard Deim. It has had the same name for generations, since my grandfather and my father, like me, are also called Gerhard. It won't surprise you that the youngest member of our family is also called Gerhard and is already eager to take over the family estate.”

8,5/10 De Grote Hamersma
KK. Kühlere Klima. Toch een lekker rijpe zweigelt. Rood met aardig wat Sturm und Drang. Pit. Ausdauer. En laat ik vooral ook de donkere pruimen, de bittere kersen, het kruidnageltje en het zachte zoetje niet vergeten.

Niederösterreich, Austria
This wine comes from Niederösterreich, a state in Austria. The region, to the east and west of Vienna, includes the extensive Weinviertel as well as the more well-known areas of Wachau, Kremstal, and Kamptal. Niederösterreich experiences a relatively cool climate with milder summers. Zweigelt thrives here. The grape is named after Dr. Zweigelt of the Federal Institute for Viticulture in Klosterneuburg, who crossed Sankt Laurent with Blaufränkisch in 1922. Zweigelt wines range from light and fruity to intense and spicy, sometimes with oak aging.
