Pascal et Nicolas Reverdy La Grand Rue

Sancerre, France
Sauvignon blanc
The vines of the Reverdy family have been planted since 1936 on a unique piece of terroir. It is because of those old sticks that this wine has so much depth, complexity and length. So unique that you rarely come across it, even in Sancerre.

About the winemaker

“When my brother and I took over the family domain from our parents, we decided that it was enough; we stopped selling our grapes and started making our own wine. Immediately, our approach was different from other winemakers in the area. We decided to make wine in the "Burgundian way", so with aging on the groin. We never expected that our wines would be so popular with this. Now I am nowhere without my sons, who are eager to take over."

Nowhere, the Sauvignon blanc grape produces wines of such quality as in the region around the small French village of Sancerre, in the Loire Valley. The Reverdy family makes wine in the neighboring village of Maimbray. This is also called Terre Blanche (white soil) because of the white chalky soil that gives the wines their mineral character. Sancerre is one of the most eastern appellations of the vast Loire valley and actually has a different climate than, for example, in the Anjou or around Nantes. The climate here is semi-continental with short, hot summers and long, cold winters. The combination of the soil and the climate gives the wines their typical refined, fresh character. The result: a sauvignon blanc you will not find anywhere else.
