About the winemaker

“Matt has worked as a winemaker in Australia's Barossa Valley and decided to head to Portugal in search of a non-wine adventure. I was born and raised in the Portuguese Doura and had worked at various port houses. In 2007 we met and in 2009 we founded Quinta de Pedra in the heart of the Douro Valley. With this, our dream - making wine with friends in one of the best wine spots in Europe - has come true.”

Sterwijn!
Peer, limoen, licht perzik. Wat vijg. Witlofbittertje met iets zoet-fris tot afscheid. Maar we komen nog eens terug."

"Quite a sharp aroma of grapefruit and crushed stones, with green fruits. On the palate, very crisp but not sharp. Lots of high-wire citrus with a counterpoint of grainy lees texture. Bone dry, almost chewy and deliciously fresh. Persistent, too. Clear as a bell."

Rabigatungouveio; two grape varieties that are relatively unknown to many wine drinkers. Portugal has more than 250 indigenous grape varieties. Because of the remote location in the southwest of Europe and the focus on grain production during the military dictatorship of the last century, the Portuguese have not cared about internationally successful grapes. It is a joy to discover all the Portuguese grape varieties! Rabigato, which means something like cat tail, has a very high acidity and is therefore usually used in blends. Gouvei is a grape with an enormous amount of aromatic talents, exuberant tropical fruit and can use some acidity. All in all, a wine that is perfectly balanced!
