About the winemaker

“Matt has worked as a winemaker in Australia's Barossa Valley and decided to head to Portugal in search of a non-wine adventure. I was born and raised in the Portuguese Doura and have worked at several port houses. In 2007 we met and in 2009 we founded Quinta de Pedra in the heart of the Douro Valley. With this, our dream - making wine with friends in one of the best wine spots in Europe - has come true.”

"Dates, redcurrants, bonfires and peat - a touch roasted but lovely and soft on the palate. Woody, spicy clove aromas."

"Attractive, bright reddish tawny colour. Intense aromas of dried fruits and nuts but still really fruity with note of plums. Surprisingly light on the mid palate, lots of flavour but not as much weight as I expected with this level of alcohol and sweetness. Like most 10-year-old tawnies, the spirit is only just integrated but it does have a tangy freshness on the finish."

Douro, Portugal
The Douro valley is known for its steep slopes, rocky soil. On those steep slopes are many terraced vineyards. The climate in the valley is extreme with hot summers and freezing winters. About half of the vineyards in this region are used to produce Portugal's national pride; port wine. This fortified, sweet wine is now world famous. The better port comes from grapes from the Cima Corga sub-region, as is the case with this tawny port. This port matures for no less than 10 years in oak barrels. This ensures rich aromas of, among other things, butterscotch, toffee and vanilla.
