About the winemaker

"I grew up on my parents' farm, which has been in the family for three generations. I still have that farm and there I grow a number of different crops on a small scale. But first and foremost, I am a winemaker! Since 1995, I have been assisted in running our winery by my wife Daniela. At Weingut Soellner, we make every effort to be as sustainable as possible: we work biodynamically and have been working on becoming climate-neutral as a company for several years. The wines we produce are as pure as possible."

Hybride-wijn
Grüner veltliners are the ultimate 'hybrid wines'. They can be used both as a refined aperitif, but are also a gastronomic chameleon. Applicable with classic Austrian schnitzel, but also with sushi or spicy Asian.

Wagram, Austria
Weingut Soellner is located in the Austrian wine region of Wagram. This area lies west of Vienna and is divided in two by the Danube. The soil in the north of this area lends itself perfectly to making fresh white wines, as it has a high chalk content. Grüner veltliner thrives very well here. It is the most widely planted grape variety in this area, as well as throughout Austria. The wines made from grüner veltliner are fresh and dry, often with a (white-)peppery finish. Gastronomically, it is multi-purpose: the wine goes well with a wide variety of dishes. The vines of this grüner veltliner stand on top of the Hengstberg, at 370 metres above sea level. This gives the grapes more sun and gives the wine softer and riper tones than many other grüner veltliners.

Heeeeeel anders dan andere gruners die ik heb geproeft. Echt fruitig, geen mineralen. Dat vond ik beetje raar, maar wel lekker.
