"In 1999, I bought an estate that had been abandoned for more than 30 years. Yet, I instantly fell in love! The winery is situated on a hill surrounded by forests. This not only creates a fantastic view but also provides perfect protection for the vineyards. There is an ideal, mild climate here in which my grapes can ripen to perfection."

"Montecucco. Je vindt het tussen Monte Amiata en Monte Grosseto. De streek fungeert als een soort overdrukventiel voor Montalcino. Die wijnregio is inmiddels zo begeerd dat de prijzen voor grond stijgen als ware het de vaderlandse woningmarkt. En dan valt een eurootje of zeventien wel weer mee. En toch een sangiovese die staat als een huis. Flink in het eikenhout maar dat domineert pittig kersenfruit en zwarte bessen niet. Lekker veel inhoud en een draai aan de pepermolen en een fijne finale."

Toscane , Italy
Montecucco is a unique part of Tuscany. It is located in the warm southern corner of this region, near the famous Brunello area. It is also home to Monte Amiata, the second-highest volcano in the country. The history of viticulture in Montecucco dates back centuries, as the Romans had already realized that the volcanic soil and specific climate of the area were ideal for growing wine. However, the region only received official recognition in the 1990s. In 1998, Montecucco was granted DOC status (Denominazione di Origine Controllata), and in 2011, it was upgraded to DOCG status (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), the highest recognition in Italian winemaking.

Dit is een hele mooie Sangiovese, met die typische combinatie van eigenlijk een zekere lichtheid (ook in kleur) maar toch heel veel passie, diepgang, scherpte zelfs. Onmisbaar bij een mooie lasagne of Ossobucco!
