About the winemaker
"The history of our winery dates back to the year 1624. The house originally served as a coach house, where horses could rest from a long journey and the coachman could enjoy a good glass of wine from the house. For generations, the house was owned by the Blankenhorn family, until Rosie Blankenhorn couldn't find a successor within her family. She handed it over to us in 2014 and since then we have been working hard to perpetuate its centuries-old history.

Baden, Germany
Due to its southern location, Baden is the warmest wine region in Germany. Weingut Blankenhorn is located just about exactly on the border triangle with France and Switzerland. The climate is comparable to that of Burgundy in France, so Burgundy grapes like pinot noir and chardonnay do extremely well here. Gutedel is a grape that also does tremendously well here, it is an unknown grape better known in Switzerland as chasselass. It is a fairly neutral grape variety that gains character depending on the soil it is planted on. On the chalky soil of Baden, it gives wines with enormous minerality, exciting citrus aromas and a balanced acid structure.
