Colpaola Verdicchio Di Matelica

Marken, Italy
Verdicchio
This verdicchio comes from Matelica's highest vineyards. The soil here is volcanic, which gives this wine a boost of minerality. A quaffable wine that goes extremely well with Italian cheeses and venus shells.

About the winemaker

"I used to work at a financial institution. All the numbers drove me crazy. Hence I chose life. 'La bella vita' as we Italians say. Our life now is all about enjoyment, fine wines, good food and good company. I would advise you to drink our fresh verdicchio in good company too, that's when it comes out best."

“Fruit is fermented and stored in stainless steel only, to highlight the vivid primary fruit characters of the variety. Notes of pear, apricot and grapefruit plus hints of marzipan and preserved lemon are balanced by glorious zingy acidity, a long, flinty, mineral-toned finish and a final flourish of freshly chopped tarragon.” (2018 vintage)

The Marche wine region can be divided into two distinct DOC zones for white verdicchio wines. The first is that of verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, or the hills northeast of the city of Ancona and the village of Jesi . The DOC area where this verdicchio comes from (verdicchio di Matelica) is a much smaller wine region in the neighbouring province of Macerata. The soil here has a much higher mineral content, which, combined with the cool climate, gives the wines many fresh aromas with particularly refined, almost volcanic tones.
