About the winemaker

When we were looking for an outstanding Grüner Veltliner in 2021, Gerhard’s wines stood head and shoulders above the rest. Even today, his Grüner Veltliner remains one of our personal favourites. We therefore could not pass up the opportunity to select a true single-vineyard wine for this special cuvée.

9/10 points - De Grote Hamersma
“Meet Gerhard the Third. Named after his grandfather and father, who had already put this small family estate near Vienna on the map. This Gerhard also has a deep passion for the family business. His specialty: Grüner Veltliner. And the grapes he used for this special Grapedistrict anniversary edition come with plenty of experience in their own right: Alte Reben (old vines). It is a limited edition as well — just 2,000 bottles produced, filled with a vibrant, lively, and spicy white wine. A hint of peach and yellow plum, followed by a clear and precise expression of green promise: green apple, crunchy green beans, lime, mint, and a final pinch of white pepper. 1,999 bottles to go. Just enough for a celebration.”

Kamptal, Austria
Kamptal is one of Austria’s most prestigious wine regions, located around the wine town of Langenlois, about 70 kilometres northwest of Vienna. The region takes its name from the Kamp River and is characterised by a combination of hot summer days and cool nights influenced by the northern Waldviertel area. The undisputed star of the region is Grüner Veltliner. On the lower terraces with their rich loess soils, this grape develops its characteristic rounded texture and its famous hint of white pepper. Higher up the slopes, where the soils shift to hard rock such as gneiss and slate, the wines gain precision and a firm, mineral backbone. Grüner Veltliner from Kamptal is known for its great diversity, ranging from feather-light and refreshing styles to powerful and gastronomically complex wines. It is the ultimate expression of a cool climate shaped by a unique geological layering.
