Sicilië, Italy
Field blend
Winemaker Fabrizio Vella wants to make as pure a wine as possible. This is why he works organically and decided not to filter the wine. It results in this surprisingly fresh wine full of aromas of citrus, flowers and fresh herbs.

About the winemaker

"As a proud Sicilian, I am very keen to try to show how delicious my island is. For this project, I chose some vineyards that are typical. For example, they are at an altitude between 350-450 metres and a fresh sea breeze blows. As a result, my yields are naturally lower. In addition, I go into the vineyards to harvest a little earlier than my neighbours, which gives my wine that little extra freshness. I also hardly add any sulphite, this keeps the wine more alive and you taste the island even more pure."

Sicilië, Italy
Sicily is a special place. Apart from the beautiful beaches, Mount Etna or the delicious food, it is also a wine region par excellence. The soil is naturally full of volcanic minerals, there is a sea breeze that warms in winter and it is sunny. Less well known is that the island has more than 20 sub-regions and it more than 65 indigenous grape varieties. Unsurprisingly, it is very popular among sommeliers these days because of the wines made from the local grape varieties. In one of Fabrizio's vineyards, the different grape varieties are criss-crossed. By treating them as one variety; harvesting, pressing and fermenting at the same time, he actually makes one wine out of them, compared to the more common retrospective blending of the different grape varieties. Yet this process is centuries old and not entirely unusual. In Germany and Austria, for instance, it is known as Gemischter Satz.

De prijs/kwaliteit is echt geweldig! Veel diepgang en een mooie balans tussen frisheid en intensiteit.
