"At FitaPreta (which means 'black ribbon' in Portuguese), sustainable viticulture and innovation take center stage. The best example of this is the aerial photography of our vineyards using infrared cameras to determine where the grapes grow best. But when it comes to winemaking, we don't shy away from traditional, labor-intensive, and 'old-fashioned' methods: manual harvesting and selection and the use of oak barrels."

"Wijnmaker António Maçanita is een non-conformist, innovatief en idealistisch, meldt het achteretiket. Fijn dat de hr-manager van Fitapreta even zijn personeelsdossier openbaar maakt. Dat-ie ook in 2016 weer lekkere wijn heeft gemaakt is niet genoteerd. Doen we dat hier maar even. Vorig jaar dikke pruim, bes, braam, zon en flink wat tanninehouvast. Dit jaar het tegenovergestelde. Van vol naar lichtvoetigheid. Bessen. Kersen. Slank en fris. Eigenzinnig en karakteristiek. Frappante koerswending richting een soort Alentejo-bojo. Kan aan het dossier toegevoegd worden."

Alentejo, Portugal
Alentejo is located in the south-central part of Portugal. The name is derived from the Portuguese 'além do Tejo,' which translates to 'beyond the Tagus River.' Although the region covers one-third of the country's land area, only 5% of the population lives there. Just 5% of the region is cultivated with vineyards; you'll find more olive groves, cork oak trees, and wheat fields. The biggest risk to winemaking is the heat in July and August when temperatures can rise above 40 degrees Celsius. That's why the winemakers have a range of indigenous grape varieties at their disposal that can withstand this heat. The grapes used for this FitaPreta Tinto are Aragonez (40%), Trincadeira (30%), and Alicante Bouschet (30%). Aragonez, known as Tempranillo in Spain, produces wines in Alentejo with lower acidity and tannins than in other regions. Trincadeira, which ripens early, has the tannins and imparts a hint of eucalyptus to the wine. Alicante Bouschet is a teinturier grape (a grape with red flesh), providing a significant boost in fruit and color.

FitaPreta Vinhos Alentejo Tinto 2016, geproefd 01-08-18 -Uiterlijk: robijnrode kleur. -Geur: gemiddeld+ intensiteit, de wijn is volledig ontwikkeld, met aroma’s als aardbei, eucalyptus, peper, vanille, jam-achtig. -Smaak: droog, gemiddeld- zuurgehalte, gemiddeld- tannines, hoog alcoholgehalte (14,5%), met een gemiddelde body (mondgevoel). Gemiddelde smaakintensiteit met smaken als aardbei, rode kers, toast. Een gemiddeld+ lange afdronk. Redelijk in balans (mist zuren, is wat alcoholisch), gemiddeld intens, gemiddeld+ afdronk en gemiddeld complex. Prijs/kwaliteit: goed. Gekoeld drinken. -Conclusie: een goede wijn. Nu drinken: zal zich niet verder ontwikkelen. (NB Op de site 2015, ik heb in de winkel 2016 geleverd gekregen)
