About the winemaker

"We only use natural products to protect our falanghina grapes - such as algae, propolis (beeswax) and sage. For example, we let the weeds grow between the tendrils as much as possible because they attract the desired insects."

"The vineyard is the origin of the wine, the cellar is its cradle. Read more about it with their L'Amore delle Api, made from the Fiano grape. Here's their take on the equally local Falanghina in the glass. Ripe and aromatic. Passion fruit meets pineapple. Ripe peach dazzles pink grapefruit and mandarin. Soft acidity heralds a mild finish. Fancy something a little different than a handful of chickpea chips? Go the extra mile and take an exotic trip to foie gras with prawns."

The falanghina is a grape from southern Italy and it is planted mainly in the Campania region. Its name refers to a wooden stick that was once used to support the vines; the falangha. The grape ripens late in the season and needs plenty of sunshine, and that is what it gets in sunny Campania. The danger for this authentic grape variety is in the yield. When yields are high in Campania's fertile soil, you get dull wines with little excitement. On the other hand, if you keep yields deliberately low and even prune away some bunches of grapes at the end of the season (green pruning), you get great wines that combine floral aromas with great fresh minerality.
