About the winemaker
Although we have only been working with winemaker Uroš for a few years, his wines made an immediate impact. When we first introduced Marof, we did not expect our entire team to become so enthusiastic about it. An anniversary cuvée without his wines was therefore simply not an option in our view.

Prekmurje, Slovenia
Although the Goričko region has an age-old winemaking tradition, it was long somewhat the neglected child of Slovenian viticulture. Historical and cultural circumstances, along with its remote location, meant that its wines were hardly consumed outside the region itself. By the 1960s, only a few vineyards remained. The vineyards that did survive were planted with grape varieties that were very popular in the United States, though there were exceptions, such as in the village of Mačkovci. Here, traditional plantings of Blaufränkisch, Sauvignon Blanc, Silvaner, and Welschriesling were still found.
Even in the 1980s, when Slovenian winemaking underwent a major quality revolution, this region remained a blind spot. It wasn’t until 2007 that entrepreneur Stane Polanič, together with winemaker Uroš, founded Marof Winery right here, gradually awakening this sleeping beauty.
