Nando Jakot Blue label

Primorska, Slovenia
Jakot
Defiant, quirky and orange! Because the EU wants to attribute the patent for Tokaj only to wines from Hungarian Tokaj, the Slovenians inverted Tokaj: Jakot in other words! And what a one!

About the winemaker

“I followed in the footsteps of my grandfather, who was also a winemaker. He is also the namesake of the winery: Nando. My vineyards are located in a unique part of Slovenia, right on the border with Italy. Here, fresh Alpine winds alternate with the warm, salty sea breeze from the Adriatic Sea. As a result, my wines have both ripe, almost tropical aromas and freshness and elegance.”

8,5/10 punten – Harold Hamersma, De Grote Hamersma
“Vrij hoog in de zuren hangend, maar met kalmerende abrikozen en tabaksbladeren, en daardoor heel geschikt als begeleider van een bord vette koteletjes.” (jaargang 2017)

Primorska, Slovenia
Primorska is located in the southwestern part of Slovenia, just across the border from the Italian region of Friuli. It's hard to say where Italy ends and Slovenia begins. Some of Andrej's vineyards are located in Friuli. The special soil here is called "ponka" in the local dialect. It's rich in limestone, iron, minerals, and volcanic rock. This wine is made from Friulano, also known as "zeleni sauvignon" in Slovenia. It used to be called Tokai Friulano, but the term Tokai can now only be used in Hungary. However, the name of the wine still references this old name (if you reverse "Jakot"). Friulano is somewhat similar to Sauvignon Blanc but has a fuller body with more peach and a hint of almond. The grapes are fermented with their skins, which is a process typically used for red wine but not for white wine. The wine is also bottled unfiltered.

Good to pair with German orange chocolate. I'm an IPA fan and can appreciate the similarities
