About the winemaker

“"I followed in the footsteps of my grandfather, who was also a winemaker. My interest in natural wines was awakened early on. I studied oenology at agricultural school and realized that I didn't want to conform to the prevailing conventions in the wine world. I find it a challenge to intervene as little as possible in the winery. Every time, the process unfolds slightly differently, resulting in unique flavors and wines. It sometimes feels like I'm surrendering to nature rather than trying to influence it, and that's a real thrill!"”

8,5/10 punten – Harold Hamersma, De Grote Hamersma
“Vrij hoog in de zuren hangend, maar met kalmerende abrikozen en tabaksbladeren, en daardoor heel geschikt als begeleider van een bord vette koteletjes.” (2017 vintage)

Primorska, Slovenia
Primorska is located in the southwest of Slovenia, just across the border from the Italian Friuli region. It's hard to say where Italy ends and Slovenia begins. Some of Andrej's vineyards are located in Friuli. The special local soil is called 'ponka' in the dialect and is rich in limestone, iron, minerals, and volcanic rock. It's a perfect ground for rebula. This grape produces elegant wines with lively acidity and a nutty flavor. Andrej practices organic farming, and the grapes are hand-harvested. In this case, the grape skins ferment along with the juice, which gives the wine a light orange color with more flavor compounds and tannins than in white wines that ferment in the usual way. This results in an exciting taste with a slightly nutty bitterness in the finish. The wine is bottled unfiltered and without the addition of sulfites.
