About the winemaker

“Just like the region, our winery also has a long history with the friulano grape. Shortly after construction, at the beginning of the 19th century, the first grape vines were planted. Although the same grape was still called Tokai at the time. After a dispute with Hungary, where there is a wine region with the same name, the grape lost the short straw. Since then it has been known to us in Friuli as friulano.”

Friuli, Italy
Friuli is located in the extreme northeast of Italy, near the border triangle of Italy, Slovenia and Austria. Until the First World War, Friuli was part of the large Austro-Hungarian empire. So don't be surprised if you hear the German language echoing through the mountains. Grapes such as Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Refosco and Vitovska are also the rule rather than the exception. However, Friuli's signature white grape is friulano. This was once known as tocai friulano, but its associations with the prestigious Hungarian Tokaji wine caused a dispute. This became so heated that the European court had to make a decision. Since then the grape has been known as the friulano. The history of the region and the grape go back a long way. The first mentions come from around the year 1600.
