About the winemaker

 “Matt heeft gewerkt als wijnmaker in de Australische Barossa Valley en besloot naar Portugal te gaan op zoek naar een niet wijnavontuur. Ïk ben geboren en getogen in de Portugese Doura en heb bij verschillende porthuizen gewerkt. In 2007 hebben we elkaar ontmoet en in 2009 hebben we Quinta de Pedra opgericht in het hart van de Douro vallei. Hiermee is onze droom – het met vrienden maken van wijn op één van de beste wijnspots van Europa - in vervulling gegaan.”

"Smart modern packaging – frosted clear bottle and glass stopper. This is a distinctive white port: highly aromatic, with a range of aromas from citrus, to dried citrus peel, and a stony vanilla sweetness as well as freshly sawn wood. Fresh and lively on the palate, mostly cool, crisp citrus flavour as well as slightly ripe more tropical flavours and clementine. Fresh but quite gentle in terms of acidity and would need to be drunk well chilled to keep that freshness. Elegant and aromatic. I don't know how this will age – white ports can age brilliantly but this one is made to focus on the aroma, so perhaps better drunk in relative youth?"

De Douro vallei staat bekend om de steile hellingen, rotsachtige bodem. Op die steile hellingen liggen vele terrasvormige wijngaarden. Het klimaat in de vallei is extreem te noemen met hete zomers en ijskoude winters. Ongeveer de helft van de wijngaarden in deze streek wordt gebruikt voor de productie van Portugals nationale trots: De Port. Deze versterkte, zoete wijn is inmiddels wereldberoemd. De betere port komt van druiven uit de subregio Cima Corga, zoals dat ook bij deze witte port het geval is. De witte port is wat energieker en frisser dan de rode variant en combineert honingachtige aroma’s met frisse citrustonen. Dit maakt dat ze het ook goed doet als aperitief of in een cocktail.
