Quinta da Pedra Alta Tinto

Douro, Portugal
Sousão, Tinta barocca, Touriga franca, Touriga nacional
Winemakers Matt and Joao know how to throw a party out of red wine with the traditional Port grapes. This surprising, sturdy wine is bursting with the typical juicy port fruit and fresh acidity, but even more exciting when dry.

About the winemaker

“Matt worked as a winemaker in the Australian Barossa Valley and decided to go to Portugal in search of a new wine adventure. I was born and raised in the Portuguese Douro region and worked at various port wine houses. We met in 2007, and in 2009, we founded Quinta de Pedra in the heart of the Douro Valley. This allowed us to fulfill our dream of making wine with friends in one of the best wine spots in Europe.”

Douro, Portugal
Everyone knows the Douro region for its famous port wines. However, this region is much more than that. Portugal is home to over 250 indigenous grape varieties. Due to its remote location in southwestern Europe and a focus on grain production during the military dictatorship of the last century, the Portuguese have paid little attention to internationally successful grapes. It's a delight to discover all these Portuguese grape varieties! In this blend, each grape brings something unique: Touriga Franca contributes structure, Tinta Barroca adds juicy fruitiness, Sousão contributes deep color and fresh acidity, and Touriga Nacional enhances the long finish.
