Riva dei frati Prosecco Frizzante

Prosecco, Italy
Glera
Riva dei Frati is named after the location of the vineyards: a forgotten abbey on a steep hillside. Monks were already making wine here in the 15th century, with these light, refreshing bubbles as a lasting memory!

About the winemaker

“Our family has a long tradition in the wine trade, but it started to itch to make wine itself. That is why we bought an old, dilapidated winery to refurbish. With a lot of energy, passion and hard work, we managed to restore this estate to its former glory.”

Prosecco, Italy
The hills of Valdobbiadene are special. So special that they are on the Unesco world heritage list. The landscape is characterized by “ciglioni”, small plots of vines on narrow grassy terraces. This is not only beautiful to see, but has also contributed to the success of the wines from this region. Due to the small terraces, all grape varieties have a perfect exposure to the sun. Wine has been made here for centuries. First quietly, later with bubbles. The Prosecco is made from the glera grape, which was previously called Prosecco, just like the region. In the Prosecco, the bubbles are created during a second fermentation in tank, the charmat method. This makes the mousse slightly lighter and finer than in Champagne, with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle. In Italy, this variant of Prosecco with a light sparkle is called a frizzante.
