About the winemaker
“My passion for wine began at a young age, when I visited a winery for the first time with my father. Later, I went to study engineering with the idea of building wine cellars, until I discovered that you could also study winemaking itself and I immediately changed direction. After more than 30 years of experience at renowned wineries, Rock of Eye is my first own project. Here, my craftsmanship and creativity finally truly come together.”

Stellenbosch, South africa
Although Chenin Blanc originated in the French Loire Valley, the grape has developed a powerful identity entirely of its own in Stellenbosch. As the historical heart of South African viticulture, this region offers a unique combination of a warm Mediterranean climate and cooling breezes from False Bay. Today, the focus in Stellenbosch is on preserving Old Vine vineyards. These vines, often over 35 years old, possess a deep root system that penetrates the complex layers of granite and shale. This results in wines with striking concentration and a natural balance between ripe fruit and a soft structure. When Chenin Blanc is given room to flourish in this terroir, it develops a layered palate of yellow apple, honey, and often a subtle saline minerality. It is the combination of sunshine hours and the technical precision of the winemakers that ensures Stellenbosch is recognized worldwide as a benchmark for this versatile grape.
