About the winemaker
“My passion for wine began at a young age, when I visited a winery for the first time with my father. Later, I went to study engineering with the idea of building wine cellars, until I discovered that you could also study winemaking itself and I immediately changed direction. After more than 30 years of experience at renowned wineries, Rock of Eye is my first own project. Here, my craftsmanship and creativity finally truly come together.”

Stellenbosch, South africa
The history of Cinsault is inextricably linked to South African viticulture. For a long time, it was the country's most widely planted red grape, often affectionately called 'Hermitage'. It is even the proud father of the national pride, Pinotage. But while Cinsault was formerly used primarily for blends, the grape has undergone a spectacular transformation in Stellenbosch into a refined single-varietal wine. In the sun-drenched vineyards surrounding Stellenbosch, beautiful, decades-old 'bush vines' still stand. These old vines have deep roots that lend the wine a unique complexity. While the region is known for its powerful Cabernets, Cinsault offers an elegant counterpoint here.
