Simoncelli Trentino Merlot

When Merlot arrived in Trentino in the 19th century, no one suspected it would become one of the region's most important grapes. Winemaker Paulo's version is a true dinner wine: robust and elegant, full of dark fruit and spices.

About the winemaker

"My family has been growing grapes for over 200 years. However, it was my father, Armando, who decided in 1977 to stop selling the grapes to the local cooperative and start making wine under our own name. The company is located in Navesel, an ancient port on the Adige River, just southwest of Rovereto, in Vallagarina. Thanks to the valley floor and the damming of the river, fertile land has emerged. The vineyards have found an ideal environment to develop and produce high-quality grapes."

Trentino, Italy
On a holiday to Italy, you can't really miss Trentino, home to the famous Brenner Pass. Yet, not everyone knows that it's also home to the "Strada dei Vini," a long string of vineyards that stretches from Bolzano to Trentino. Here, it's sunny for 300 days a year and surprisingly warm, with an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. The steep mountain slopes are not only beautiful but also very fertile, ensuring the grapes can maximize their exposure to the abundant sunshine. The temperature differences between day and night give the grapes their distinctive flavor. It's a very traditional region in terms of viticulture, where many farmers still sell their grapes to local cooperatives. Fortunately, however, there are also a few unconventional winemakers who demonstrate just how beautiful the wines from this region can be!

Ja! Lekker en inderdaad wat kruidig. Dus ook wat hoekig maar dat is juist leuk. De wijn kijkt echt serieus en heeft wat te vertellen.
