“Als wijnmaker van Cantina Frentana ben ik, naast het maken van de wijn, ook verantwoordelijk voor het behoud van historie en traditie. Dat gevoel voor historie zie je terug in de keuze voor de druiven die wij gebruiken. Dat zijn allemaal inheemse rassen als pecorino, montepulciano, cococciola en passerina. Deze druiven hebben zich al eeuwenlang kunnen aanpassen aan het klimaat en gedijen dan ook het best op de wijngaarden van het midden van Italië.”

Cantina Sociale Frentana werd in 1958 opgericht als samenwerking tussen wijnboeren. Het was Francesco d’Agostino, de dokter van het dorp, die voorstelde dat de boeren moesten samenwerken. Op zijn initiatief werd besloten samen op te trekken, elkaar te helpen met het bewerken van het land en het verkopen van de wijn. Dit bleek succesvol en al snel sloten meer boeren zich bij dit initiatief aan. Inmiddels telt deze groep al 98 wijnboeren. Iedere boer heeft 1 stem in het bestuur, hoe groot of klein deze ook is. Hierdoor worden alle beslissingen echt gezamenlijk genomen.
