About the winemaker

"Our winery is located in a beautiful villa from the bygone Italian Renaissance era. The underlying cellar dates back to 1700. At that time, it was one of the most modern wine cellars in Italy, with storage tanks for running water and a heating system capable of controlling the cellar's temperature. These old, once innovative techniques have been replaced over time by modern equipment. However, I do not shy away from manual work. I harvest by hand and also manually select the grapes for ripeness.."

Sterwijn! Beoordeeld met een 9 door De Grote Hamersma
"Montalbano, noordwestelijk van Florence. Blijkt dat ze daar fijne chianti maken. Zal wat eiken hebben gehad. Aanwezig maar geen nadrukkelijk gesplinter. Zweempje zoethout, iets specerij, fijngevoeligheid. Rijpe kersen, mooie zuren. Koopjeswaardig. Vandaar die ster."

"Bright, slightly cloudy ruby. Exciting, red berry nose of strawberries, wild berries and delicate red rose. On the palate very clear and juicy, spreads crisply over the tongue, fine texture, uncomplicated and harmonious."

The DOCG Montalbano is one of the 7 subzones in the Italian Chianti region in Tuscany, located to the northwest of Florence, just above the borders of Chianti Classico. The area is hilly, which is ideal for the optimal exposure of the grapevines to the sun. The sandy soils provide good drainage and allow the grapevines to root deeply to extract many nutrients from the soil. Sangiovese is the flagship grape of the Chianti region. Cherries, plums, leather, and tobacco, along with high acidity, are typical characteristics of this grape, and it's often blended with other grape varieties. In this case, it is blended with canaiolo nero and colorino for color and refined fruit aromas.

Heerlijke kerstwijn gegeten bij Iberico, eend en wild. Ook goed te drinken bij zwaardere groentegerechten
