Voerzio Martini Barolo Cerequio

Piemonte, Italy
Nebbiolo
Only one barrel is made of this wine by Mirko and Federica, and then only in the very best years. The mini plot of Cerequio has a different soil than the other vineyards. This makes the wine even more elegant and complex.

About the winemaker

"When I heard that we could buy half a hectare of Cerequio, my hands were shaking, and I couldn't sleep for three days. Cerequio is a true gem, one of the rare ones. Vineyards as excellent as this one almost never change owners. The last time it happened was over 20 years ago. It's indeed a great flagship for our winery.”

"The Voerzio Martini 2018 Barolo Cerequio reveals two main themes on the bouquet. The first is a fruity side with purple and black berries, and the second is a savory side that comes forth as tar, crushed stone and licorice. That's the power of the Cerequio."

Piemonte, Italy
The best wine region in Italy, Piemonte, is located in the northwest of the country. The region is bordered by the Alps to the north and west. The village of La Morra is the heart of the D.O.C.G. Barolo, and it's also where the vineyard "Cerequio" is located. It is one of the most exclusive vineyards in the entire area and is a source of pride for renowned producers such as Gaia, who also work a small piece of land here. Since 2018, the twins Federica and Mirko have managed to acquire half a hectare of this land. The vineyards face southwest and have a sandier soil compared to the surrounding vineyards, resulting in lighter and more elegant wines.
