Voerzio Martini Barolo La Serra

Barolo, Italy
Nebbiolo
Making Barolo takes time, effort and requires a huge amount of expertise. The twins Mirko and Federica have learnt it from their uncle and thanks to his strict tutorship, make a complex and insane Barolo.

About the winemaker

"Together with our uncle Gianni Voerzio, we carefully produce the finest wines here in La Morra, the heart of the D.O.C.G. Barolo. During the growing season, we hand-prune the grapevines up to five times to keep the yield low, ensuring that only the best grapes remain for even ripening. We also harvest by hand and transport the grapes in small crates to prevent rotting and oxidation. You can definitely taste this care and attention in our wines!"

95/100 punten - James Suckling
"Dense and very layered with pretty, polished tannins and aromas and flavors of cherries, dried strawberries and hints of cedar. It’s full-bodied and intense."

Barolo, Italy
The best wine region in Italy, Piemonte, is located in the northwest of the country. In the north and west, the region is bordered by the Alps. The village of La Morra is the heart of the D.O.C.G. Barolo, and this is where the "La Serra" vineyard is located. The terroir, partly responsible for the unique character of Barolo, is ideal here. A soil composed of fine sand, limestone, and clay, combined with slopes facing south or southwest, is perfect for the nebbiolo grape, the only allowed grape variety for Barolo. Late harvesting and proper aging of the wine are essential. The Voerzio Martini Barolo Le Serra ages for 24-30 months in part new, large French oak barrels. All the effort and patience put into making this wine are richly rewarded with a wine that has an incredibly wide flavor profile, a complex nose, and great aging potential.
