About the winemaker

"Arneis" means "little rascal" in the local dialect because it can be quite a tricky grape to work with, but when it does succeed you get wines that are actually very nicely balanced. After harvesting, we macerate the juice with the skins for no less than 12 hours. For this we use dry ice. This ensures that the cells release more flavour and no oxidation takes place, for more freshness."

"De 2019 eerder beoordeeld. Thans 2021. Arneis. Very nice.

Voorheen de vermilder van te barse barolo. Beter af als solist. Ook dit jaar weer. Pepermuntje op de neus. Pepermuntje op de tong. Wit met een Wilhemina-waasje. Fris. Wat je zegt. Ook eigenwijs, eigenzinnig, eigengereid. Appeltjes, onrijpe peer, bittergarnituurtje, rozemarijn en stralend sap.

Martini. Anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Maar bij voorkeur met een ook al eigenwijze, eigenzinnige en zelf bereide pasta met pesto erbij."

Piedmont can be translated as 'foot of the mountain'. A fitting name as the area, located in the north-west of Italy, is bordered by the Alps both to the north and west. It is known for the many quality wines that come from it, mainly from the red nebbiolo grape. For white wines, however, it is the arneis grape that rings the bell. Things would have been very different. In the 1970s, there were only two wineries making an effort for this grape. This hard work was rewarded in 2006 with a D.O.C.G. for 100% Arneis wines, a real comeback! Now, there is just under 600 hectares of vineyards again.
