Erwin Tinhof

Winemaker Erwin Tinhof’s ancestors were cultivating wine grapes eleven generations ago. Let that sink in for a moment—eleven generations! Most of the vineyards have been in the family for centuries. However, Erwin is actually the first generation to start making wine himself.

Winemaker's words:

“In the blaufänkisch grape, one can recognize the hand of a master. This grape is truly a diva in the vineyards. It buds very early in the year, but ripens quite late. As a result, you have to spend a lot of time in the vineyard, prune extensively, and say quite a few prayers to keep diseases at bay. Additionally, it naturally has a rather high acidity and strong tannins, which can be notoriously difficult for winemakers to balance just right.”
