Buchmayer Pinot Noir

Weinviertel, Austria
Pinot noir
Pinot noir is of course world famous from Burgundy, but winegrower Thomas also makes this grape shine in Austria. Completely natural, with lots of red fruit and a smoky minerality. It doesn't get more exciting and elegant!

About the winemaker

“As a family business, we build on the experience of generations. We combine this with the latest techniques available. In this way we arrive at the essence of better understanding and working with nature. The basis for our wines is a lively soil. By processing them organically, not using pesticides and planting a wide diversity of flowers, we get grapes with finesse and character.“

Weinviertel, Austria
The Weinviertel is Austria's northernmost and largest wine region. Here between the Danube and the Czech border it is actually grüner veltliner country. Almost half of all grüner veltliner plantings worldwide are located here. Yet, in addition to this local hero, there are also welschrieslings here. Zweigelt, blaufränkish and quite a few members of the pinot family, both white and red. Although it may not be the most famous area, it is a super interesting area. The wine trade has played an important role here for centuries. Around Retz you will find extensive wine cellar complexes under the old town. Many winemakers are small family businesses that have been making wine for generations. Every family has its own terroir and every family has its own way of making wine. As a result, many different styles of wine come from the area, from fresh white wines to fuller red wines. One thing is certain: with the arrival of a new generation of winemakers, the Weinviertel is really an area to keep an eye on!
