Campuget 1753 Viognier

Gard, France
Viognier
This viognier is also known as the mini-Condrieu. This is because it has been subtly oak aged and is bursting at the seams with aromas of blossom, ginger, peach and apricot fruit.

About the winemaker

"Château de Campuget is located in the Manduel region, just 15 kilometers outside the city of Nîmes. Just after our era began, the Romans were already present there. 20 minutes from our Château Campuget you will find 'le pont du Gard', a Roman aqueduct. I have been there more than 100 times and yet I am always surprised by the beauty of this monument. 2000 years ago the Romans also brought vines to this region. I am proud to continue this ancient tradition of wine making. Many winegrowers are small family businesses that have been making wine for generations. Every family has its own terroir and every family has its own way of making wine. As a result, many different styles of wine come from the area, from fresh white wines to fuller red wines. One thing is certain: with the arrival of a new generation of winemakers, the Weinviertel is really an area to keep an eye on!"

This viognier comes from the southern French department of Gard, the transition area between Languedoc and Provence, just north of the city of Nîmes. The climate is Mediterranean with hot summers and, fortunately, plenty of rain in the summer season. The soil is similar to that of the Rhône valley with the characteristic round pebbles ("gress"). These trap heat during the day to release it at night and ensure good drainage. This southern French soil is also covered in fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme, these spicy scents are called 'garrigue' by the French. If you sniff this viognier carefully and close your eyes, you can almost smell these herbs!

Lekker, vol, mollig, rijp geel fruit. Perzik, abrikoos, mooie wijn uitstekende prijs/kwaliteit verhouding moet ik zeggen. Maar goed, lees de review van Hamersma. Wijn waardering is natuurlijk persoonlijk.

Lekker! Condrieustijl.
