Domaine de Pieblanc Ventoux

Rhone, France
Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah

About the winemaker

“I grew up in Cornas, in a family of bon vivants. My brother had already found his passion early; he became a chef. It took me a bit longer. After a career in telecom, I decided in 2014 to, like my brother, engage in things that truly make life more enjoyable. That's why I returned to the Rhône Valley to make real terroir wines.”

Most people may primarily know Mont Ventoux for the grueling climb in the Tour de France. However, it won't be long before the Ventoux region rings a bell with wine enthusiasts as well. While historically not known for its quality wines, it has become one of the most progressive wine regions in France. Under the guidance of local wine authorities, significant strides are being made, and it's not in vain. In the fight against climate change, it's one of the coolest parts of the Rhône Valley. Additionally, it boasts a wide variety of soil types and microclimates, which is attracting more and more winemakers to establish themselves in the region. Encouraged by local wine authorities, an increasing number of farmers here are choosing not to sell their grapes to cooperatives, as was customary, but to make wine themselves. However, it doesn't stop there. In 2021, the local wine authority drafted a manifesto with goals related to wine production in the region, all focused on biodiversity and climate change. These goals are expected to be achieved by 2030, including the target of having 25% of the vineyards under organic cultivation. These objectives can be challenging for many large cooperatives, making Ventoux a region increasingly appealing for small wine producers. One thing is certain: the future of wine looks bright here.
