About the winemaker

"The history of our Winery, Groot Phesantekraal, goes back to 1698, when VOC captain Olof Bergh acquired a piece of land. For a long time, it was a farm with mixed farming consisting mostly of grain fields, grazing cattle, sheep and also vineyards. Since 1897, the farm has been in the hands of our family. In 2005 we launched our own label and since then we have been busy giving the winery a contemporary look, with as icing on the cake a visitor centre and our own restaurant to introduce everyone to our wines."

Sauvignon blanc probably owes its name to the French word 'sauvage', 'the wild', as it grew a lot in the wild in southern France. This variety is characterised by a fresh, fairly high acidity, fresh tropical fruit and green notes of freshly cut grass and green asparagus. In this South African variety, you can especially smell lots of luscious passion fruit, freshly squeezed limes and a bruised stalk of lemongrass. The South African climate clearly makes for a slightly more exotic version of sauvignon, than, for example, one from the French Loire.

Smaak viel me tegen en erg overheersende aspergegeur.
