About the winemaker

"We Portuguese are proud of our indigenous grape varieties, they really have their own character. This is due not only to the aromatic grapes, but also to the special natural conditions here in Setúbal. The terroir is unique, thanks to its location between the Tagus and Sado rivers. For millions of years, these rivers have brought the sand that makes up the soil here. The climate is Mediterranean and, thanks to the proximity to the ocean, it can be quite humid here, but the sea breeze ensures healthy grapes."

South of Lisbon lies the peninsula of Setúbal. In the 1950s, the Portuguese government started a major colonization project here. Agricultural workers who migrated to this region were given a free piece of land to farm and united in a cooperative. Today, winemakers are more independent. This reserva consists of the indigenous Portuguese varieties fernão pires, verdelho, antão vaz and arinto, with a little chardonnay. It has a rich aroma of tropical fruit and light floral notes, as well as juicy acidity. Maturation in American and European oak provides length, body and complexity.
