About the winemaker

“Savennières: a sublime piece of terroir on the banks of the Loire, south of Angers – a pristine, natural oasis of light for the chenin blanc grape. In Savennières, it’s not just about the vines, but also about the craftsmanship and dedication that go into making wine here. For me, that means: everything is done by hand, we work organically, and the wines are given plenty of time to mature in wooden barrels in the cellar.”

Loire, France
On the western side of the Loire, close to Angers, lies Savennières, a small but legendary appellation entirely dedicated to one grape: chenin blanc. Viticulture here dates back to the Middle Ages, when the vineyards were owned by monasteries. For centuries, Savennières has been regarded as one of France’s great white wines, prized for its power and ageing potential. The landscape is rugged and stony. The vineyards lie on south-facing slopes above the river, with soils of slate, volcanic rock, and sand. This produces chenin with a striking structure: dry, mineral, and intense, with aromas of quince, beeswax, and dried herbs. When young, it can be strict and taut, but with time in bottle it unfolds into something deep and complex.
