"As a child, I helped on my parents' winery. Together with my mother I planted vineyards back then. If I could, I would still do all the work in the vineyards myself. Because only by standing daily in the vineyards myself you get a good sense of the vines, the vintage and ultimately the end result; the wine."

Smells of yellow plum and mimosa flowers. Sonorous. A wine that reverberates through the body like an electric current. Almost physically crackles in the mouth, like fireworks against a dark sky. The spice is like a wall of fine powder. Golden flowers, chamomile and the pencil-sketched shadow of honey. Massive lift through the nose. Powerful without being heavy, power with precision. I love the mouth-watering dustiness, the chalk haze that seems to run like autumn-mist ribbons in the valley

Although the Goričko region has a centuries-old viticultural tradition, for a long time it was a bit the underdog in Slovenian viticulture. Historical, cultural conditions and its isolated location meant that its wines were hardly ever drunk outside its own region. Therefore, in the 1960s there were few vineyards left. The vineyards that remained were planted with varieties that were very popular in the United States, of course there were exceptions such as in the village of Mačkovci. Here the traditional blaufränkisch, sauvignon blanc, silvaner and welschriesling were still planted. Even in the 1980s, when Slovenian viticulture experienced an enormous quality boost, this region remained a blind spot. It wasn't until 2007 when entrepreneur Stane Polanič and winemaker Uroš started Marof winery together, right here, and slowly but surely kissed this sleeping beauty awake.

Poehhh wat gaaf dit, mooi gelaagd, mineralig, bloemig. Na 1 glas wordt de afdronk wat eendimensionaal.

Zo mooi gemaakt! Een verfijnde wijn met uitgesproken mineraliteit en frisse aroma’s van groene appel en citrus. In de mond levendig en strak, met subtiele tonen van lichte mooie hout. De wijn heeft een volle frisheid en heeft lengte in een elegante, aanhoudende afdronk.” Smaakt naar meer!!!! Je proeft de passie van deze wijnmaker.

Weinig diepte en mineraliteit, voor deze prijs had ik meer verwacht. Frisse zuren overheersen teveel.
