Rioja, Spain
Rioja is located in the northern part of Spain and takes its name from the river "Rio Oja" (a tributary of the Ebro). This region was the first to receive DOCa status, the highest quality award for Spanish wine regions. This has made Rioja known to wine lovers around the world. Somewhat less known are the white Riojas that appear in small quantities on the international wine market. This white Gran Reserva is a blend of viura and garnacha blanca. The viura (also better known as macabeo) provides the fresh fruit and florality and the garnacha blanca provides the power and spiciness of this white Rioja.
