From a young age I knew for sure: I wanted to become a winegrower. To make this dream come true, I bought an authentic wine cellar from the 13th century (!). I soon discovered that the conditions there were perfect for making and maturing wine; a constant temperature and optimum humidity. Toro, Spain
The Toro region is named after the city of Toro, an ancient settlement just 65 km from the Portuguese border. Wine growing here dates back to before Roman times. With a history that goes back so far, it is not surprising that the wines also flowed abundantly in the Spanish royal family. The quality of the wines was later recognized by, among other things, the awarding of DO status in 1933. This made Toro one of the first Spanish regions to receive this status. However, the area suffered greatly during the Spanish Civil War and became outdated. Fortunately, they are now making a major catch-up effort. For example, there are many young winemakers who have started making wines here organically.
