About the winemaker

“My parents used to take their grapes to the local cooperative. In 1999, we decided that the quality of our vineyards was too good to continue selling the grapes. Instead, we started Vinos Valtuille. Today, I run the company together with my sister. She handles everything behind the scenes, and I do my best to make the best possible wine from our old vineyards”

Robert Parker (Wine Advocate): "The fruit-driven, juicy and fresh 2020 Pago de Valdoneje combines ripeness and full development of aromas and flavors with great freshness, coming through as one of the finest unoaked wines from Bierzo and one of the best values too—ideal to serve by the glass and to go with food and tapas. It was produced with grapes from different plots, which give good tools to achieve very good balance. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2021."

Bierzo, Spain
Mencia is primarily found in the beautiful region of Galicia in northwestern Spain. This grape variety used to be mainly used to produce mediocre and thin wines. Fortunately, it has now been discovered that this grape has much more potential. Winemakers like Marcos produce wines from old vines that resemble a blend between pinot noir and cabernet franc. While Spanish beaches in the summer are full of Dutch tourists, Galicia is still relatively unexplored territory. Bierzo is located in the interior of this province on the climate border between Atlantic and continental climates. This creates an ideal climate with sufficient rainfall, moderate temperatures, and stability. This is no small advantage in these times.
