Setúbal, Portugal
Aragonez, Cabernet sauvignon, Castelão, Syrah
The Papo Amarello is a songbird that can be found in the vineyards of winemaker Jaime. He found this so inspiring that he decided to make a special wine: powerful, wood-aged and full of soft, stewed fruit.

About the winemaker
“We Portuguese are proud of our indigenous grape varieties. Our wines really have their own character. This is not only due to the aromatic grapes, but also due to the special natural conditions here in Setúbal. The terroir is unique, thanks to its location between the Tagus and Sado rivers. Over millions of years, these rivers have supplied the sand that makes up the soil here. The climate is Mediterranean and thanks to the proximity to the ocean it can be quite humid here, but the sea breeze ensures healthy grapes.”

Setúbal, Portugal
The Setúbal peninsula is located south of Lisbon. The area is best known for its fortified sweet Moscatel de Setúbal, but is also very suitable for producing dry, full-bodied wines. In the 1950s, the Portuguese government started a major colonization project here. Many grape vines were planted and the 'colones' (the agricultural workers who moved to this region) were given a free piece of land to cultivate. Many farmers united in a cooperative, in which they could jointly and with government support innovate in viticulture and new cellar techniques.
