“Our vineyards are located at over 1650 meters above sea level, currently the highest vineyards in Europe. The slopes are almost vertical, so no machines can access them. That’s why all the work must be done by hand. It’s a lot of work, but the result is unique!”

When you think of Tenerife, you might not immediately think of winemaking. The Canary Island is located in the North Atlantic Ocean, just 100 km from the African coast. Although it belongs to Spain, it is 2000 km away from the capital, Madrid. The island is dominated by the volcano “El Teide,” which, at 3718 meters, is the third-highest volcano in the world. It was the Spanish who introduced winemaking here in the 15th century. On the fertile slopes of the volcano, mainly indigenous grape varieties are grown. The phylloxera plague never reached the island, which is why some grape varieties are only found here. Surprisingly, the wines from this island have had fans for centuries. Shakespeare himself admired these wines in many of his plays.

Een van de weinige wijnen die ik steeds opnieuw blijf kopen. De Wildfire van Piedra Fluida is verrassend licht en fris, maar met genoeg diepgang om je elke slok opnieuw te laten proeven. Spannend en doordrinkbaar tegelijk. Gemaakt op vulkanische hellingen na de bosbranden van 2023, en ondersteunt de herbebossing. Mooi verhaal, heerlijke wijn.
