About the winemaker

"Quinta das Arcas is a true family business. We produced our first Arca Nova wines in 1985. Since then, we have continued to develop and work more and more sustainably. For example, we pick manually. In 2012, we produced our first certified organic wine, which I am very proud of. My favourite wine after a day of picking grapes in the vineyard? Our thirst-quenching Arca Nova Vinho Verde!"

"De Arca van Nova. Trio lokale druiven aan boord. Ruimte in het ruim voor perzik, abrikoos, een rijpe appel en een pets citrus. Crisp en verkwikkend. Vinho Verde die op dit prijsniveau nu eens niet noopt tot tandartsbezoek om na consumptie alle glazuur weer op te rapen. En letten we ook even op het alcoholpercentage?" (2019 vintage)

Vinho verde, Portugal
The Vinho Verde DOC is Portugal's largest wine region, running from the Minho River in the north to Porto in the south. It is a rainy region where the grapes grow quickly and develop few sugars. Thanks to this ripening process and the early harvest in summer, the wines have a lower alcohol content and a distinctive fresh style. 'Verde' in the name is a reference to this early (green) harvest. The Arca Nova is a blend of local grape varieties; loreiro (50%), arinto (40%) and trajadura (10%).

Super unique saffron note on the nose, peach and lemon on the palate. Nice mineral character, a bit more crisp and less bubbly than the average vinho verde. Overall quite nice.
