Soto Manrique La Transicion Orange

Cebreros, Spain
Albillo real, Chasselas-doré, Palomino
In this wine the Albillo real grape is supported by the Chasselas, a grape variety known from Germany, and the Palomino, a Sherry grape. This unusual trio produces a surprisingly juicy, umami-rich orange wine.

About the winemaker

“Years ago, I was a co-owner of a successful wine distributor. However, in 2013, my wife and I decided to fulfill our dream and acquire a small wine estate. In addition, I also make wines for a group of hobby farmers, resulting in this amber wine. After pressing, I let the skins remain in contact with the juice for an additional 28 days. This allows the skins to impart much more flavor.”

90/100 Parker punten voor de 2020 vintage
"It has a dark golden color, a medium body with moderate alcohol (12.5%) and an expressive nose of peach and yellow pit fruit, white flowers and some nuts. It's mellow and has integrated acidity and good freshness, a round palate with pungent flavors and a salty sensation in the finish."

Cebreros, Spain
Although the small village of Cebreros only secured its own DOP in 2019, it is quickly gaining popularity among wine enthusiasts. This small region encompasses just two valleys surrounding one mountain range, to the west of Madrid. The vineyards are all situated between approximately 700-1100 meters in altitude. The soil here consists of granite and slate, which are poor soils that require the grapevines to work hard to find enough nutrients. This is also why many very old vines can be found here, most of which date back to before the major phylloxera pandemic, and they are predominantly of the red garnacha and albillo real grape varieties. All of these factors contribute to low yields but with a high level of concentration. In recent years, several dynamic winemakers have settled in the region, giving it a significant boost.
