About the winemaker

“In 2007, my friends Bozidar Grabovac, Rajko Zlikar and I founded Verus Venogradi. We knew each other from work at Jerusalem Ormoz, one of the most famous wineries in Slovenia. After that we decided to start for ourselves. All three of us come from families where wine has been made for generations and it is great that we can now continue this tradition. Our goal is to make wines that bring out the best of the different grape varieties we use and that reflect the terroir of our wine region."

"Bright bright nose. Star bright. Absolutely fills the mouth. So ripe and yet not remotely like a New Zealand Sauvignon (and not like a grassy Loire either). Incredible that they get so much fruit and richness of fruit at just 12.5% alcohol. Beautiful acidity. Long and yet there's a creaminess as well as an underlying savouriness. Sorrel green. Little bit of yummy nuttiness. Lots packed into a tight space and Very good value"

Ormoz, Slovenia
Slovenia is located on the foothills of the Alps and, although it is not the most famous wine country, has a rich wine tradition. The natural conditions are quite appropriate. With its mountainous landscape, continental climate and interesting soils, the country has a lot of potential for viticulture. Slovenia has different wine regions. The largest is Podravje, which is located on the border with Austria and Hungary. The Verus Sauvignon Blanc comes from a district within Podravje: Ormoz. Sauvignon Blanc originates in the French Loire, but is planted all over the world. The French Sauvignons are often a bit sleek, where the also famous New Zealand ones are more expressive and more perfumed. This Slovenian Sauvignon is in between with a crisp minerality and aromatic notes of tropical fruit and gooseberry.
