Deze Encuves Rouge is een heerlijke natuurwijn uit 2022

Les Encuvés Rouge

Elzas, France
Auxerrois, Gewürztraminer, Pinot noir
The Alsatian tradition of blending various grape varieties into one refreshing wine can be improved, thought winemaker Julien. That's why he primarily uses white grapes with a small touch of Pinot Noir. Red wine doesn't get juicier and more refreshing than this.

About the winemaker

“My grandfather Charles started the estate in 1958 when he and his brother each received 0.75 hectares of land from their father. Unlike his brother, my grandfather decided to take a chance and plant grapes on his portion. This came with its ups and downs, but step by step, he expanded the estate. When my father joined the company, they began experimenting with organic and biodynamic viticulture. Since my brother Thiébaud and I also joined the family business, we've been producing natural wines ourselves. With the approval of our grandfather, of course, who can't resist getting involved with the vineyards."

Maison Charles Frey is located in the well-known wine village of Dambach-la-Ville, in the sub-region of Bas-Rhin. This part of Alsace lies along the Rhine River, adjacent to Germany. Roughly, it's the northern part of Alsace. The region is bordered to the north by the Palatinate Forest, to the east by Germany's Baden region, and to the south by another well-known Alsace sub-area, Haut-Rhin. Because the region is strongly influenced by German wine culture, many of the same grape varieties are cultivated here. Riesling is the most prominent grape variety in the region, but Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Auxerrois are also abundant. However, the style of the wines is different. Bas-Rhin wines tend to be more aromatic with floral and fruity notes, making them very suitable for food pairing.
