About the winemaker

"Bodega Marqués de Tomares has been in my family's hands for four generations. In 1910, my grandfather Don Román Montaña founded the winery. I always approach the vineyards with the same family philosophy: the wines should reflect the unique terroir of the region.”

Rioja, Spain
Rioja is located in the northern part of Spain and gets its name from the river "Rio Oja" (a tributary of the Ebro). This region was the first to receive the DOCa status, the highest quality designation for Spanish wine regions. This has made Rioja well-known among wine enthusiasts worldwide. The tempranillo grape is the foundation of this structured wine. It provides juicy red fruit, soft tannins, and a refined, gentle finish. The remaining 10% consists of the mazuelo grape, which may be more familiar to the general public as carignan or cariñena. It imparts structure, acidity, and spicy notes to this Rioja.
