About the winemaker

“Our winery is located right on the Serein River, the lifeblood of Chablis. Some of our 100-year-old vines (vieilles vignes in French) were planted by my grandfather when he was young. This tradition has continued for 13 generations since 1590, making us one of the oldest wine families in Chablis.”

"Fijne vieilles vignes. Niet uit 1590 toen bij het domein de eerste rank werd gelegd. Maar wel uit een buitengewoon goed jaar. En met dank aan de inspanningen van wijnmaker Jean-François Bordet, dé voorzitter van de overkoepelende Chablis Wine Board. Over de hele wereld verdedigt hij de clubkleuren. En die zijn in dit geval altijd wit. In de handbagage bevinden zich immer zijn eigen vieilles vignes, chablis van meer dan een eeuw oude stokken. Daarvan proefde ik nu zijn allerjongste oogst. Vorig oogstjaar zocht ik dat krijtstrakke, dat beendroge. En dat is er nu. Inclusief het rijpe wit fruit, het fijnmazige kalkige, de zachte zuren. Zo drinken we 'm graag. Met de complimenten van de voorzitter." (2018 vintage)

“The 2017 Chablis Vieilles Vignes is very promising, unfurling in the glass with aromas of crisp apples, oatmeal and salty oystershell. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with chewy extract and a dense, almost blocky profile, underpinned by tangy acids. This should develop very nicely in bottle.” (2017 vintage)

Chablis, located 180 kilometers southeast of Paris, is one of France's most well-known wine regions. It is often referred to as the 'satellite state of Burgundy,' as it is officially part of Burgundy but holds a distinct position. This distinction arises from its location, which is much further north and closer to Champagne than to Beaune, the heart of Burgundy. Chablis is also known for its unique terroir, specifically the "kimmeridge clay," a thick layer of limestone formed by billions of fossilized shellfish. This layer imparts the distinctive mineral aromas to Chablis's Chardonnay wines, which have earned it the nickname "oyster water".
