About the winemaker

My grandmother led a double life. Besides her job as a teacher, she cultivated one hectare of vineyards. This is how she produced her first bottles of wine for friends and acquaintances in 1955. My parents manually planted another six hectares but sold all the grapes to a large champagne house. After two generations, it's now up to us, the children, to take on a new challenge, produce our own wines, and discover what each of our plots has to offer.

The Dremont Marroy winery is located in the Vallée de la Marne, just an hour's drive from Paris. The area follows the banks of the Marne River from Epernay to Château-Thierry. On the right bank, the vineyards are ideally south-facing. A striking number of Pinot Meunier grapes are planted throughout the area, which ripens more easily here due to cooler temperatures than elsewhere in the region. Perhaps the least-known Champagne grape, it produces rich, powerful wines. But, as in the rest of the region, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are also abundant. However, these are only grown on the best plots with a southerly exposure. Because the Vallée de la Marne has only one Grand Cru, it has long been somewhat overlooked. However, it also offers opportunities. For example, many young winemakers are deciding not to sell their grapes to the big wineries, but to go it alone and invest in quality. This makes it one of the most exciting areas to watch.
